Lebanon is increasingly exposed to the impacts of climate change, affecting its natural resources, economy, communities and key sectors such as water, agriculture, energy and infrastructure. Addressing these challenges requires coordinated action across government, communities, the private sector and other partners.

Since 1999, UNDP has worked closely with the Ministry of Environment and the Government of Lebanon to strengthen the country’s climate action and advance a comprehensive, whole-of-government approach. UNDP supports Lebanon across the climate policy cycle, from climate mitigation and adaptation planning, scientific assessments and transparency systems to institutional strengthening, climate finance, private sector engagement, youth participation and international climate negotiations.

Through initiatives including Lebanon’s Nationally Determined Contributions, National Adaptation Plan, Long-Term Low Emission Development Strategy, climate transparency and reporting frameworks, and efforts to mobilize green investment, UNDP helps strengthen the policies, institutions and partnerships needed to translate climate commitments into action.

Working with government institutions, development partners, the private sector, civil society, academia, youth and local communities, UNDP supports Lebanon in building a more resilient, low-emission and climate-smart future.
