Lebanon

Our partners

Lebanon has been facing an unprecedented manifold crisis; an economic collapse, rising political instability, a massive explosion in Beirut’s port on August 4 2020, the COVID19 pandemic, and the continuous impact of the Syrian crisis. These challenges prompted us to forge new partnerships and to rethink how we engage and work with our existing partners to strengthen the agility of our response, help mobilize our efforts and build sustainable expertise, with the aim of achieving the SDGs and supporting Lebanon on its journey to recovery.

Partnership is at the heart of everything UNDP does. We offer a nearly universal presence. Our substantial expertise—both intellectual acumen and practical experience—cuts across diverse development issues and settings. These valuable assets combined with our long legacy of trust have made us a global partner of choice.

In Lebanon, we work in partnership with the government of Lebanon, UN agencies, international donors, goodwill ambassadors and advocates, civil society, the private sector, and the media.

Government:

Our partnership with the government of Lebanon provides support to local public authorities to implement projects that help drive and sustain growth to improve the life of the people of Lebanon, especially the most marginalized and vulnerable groups. Our partnership with the government covers local stability and development, environmental protection, rule of law, democratic governance, and support to advance the country’s anti-corruption agenda.

International Donors:

We work with our Partners at Core in Lebanon to implement developmental plans that will support Lebanon in achieving the SDGs.

Our partners include the EU, Germany, Canada, Japan, Netherlands, Italy, UK, USA, China, Australia, Norway, Finland, Switzerland,  Kuwait, and Qatar.

United Nations System:

UNDP’s integrator mandate serves both as a foundation for a strong UN development system, and as a key provider of integrated services and platforms in support of a coherent UN system approach to the achievement of the SDGs in each country we operate in. We remain committed to working closely with partners across the UN system to address different challenges, advance the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and achieve the SDGs.

Private Sector:

The private sector plays a critical role in national economic development by fostering innovation, providing funding, and promoting entrepreneurship. We are working together with the private sector in Lebanon to address today’s challenges and support businesses in finding sustainable solutions to become competitive and overcome the challenges faced due to Lebanon’s multi-layered crisis. For that we have been providing assistance that focus on product quality upgrade, cost effective energy solutions, targeted training to enhance soft skills, and direct support to access new markets.

Civil Society:

For UNDP, civil society constitutes the full range of formal and informal organizations that are outside the state and market. This includes social movements, volunteer organizations, indigenous peoples' organizations, mass-based membership organizations, non-governmental organizations, and community-based organizations, as well as communities and citizens acting individually and collectively. UNDP partners with civil society organizations in programme implementation and policy advocacy. At the country level, this often means working with them to provide basic services in the areas of health, education, water delivery, agricultural extension and governance.

Media:

We have worked with the media throughout the years to prioritize outreach of our efforts in promoting sustainable development, governance, climate action, poverty reduction, and gender equality.

Goodwill Ambassadors and Advocates:

UNDP has long enlisted the voluntary services and support of prominent figures as Goodwill Ambassadors and Advocates to shine a spotlight on important issues affecting our planet and its people. These well-known individuals are at the top of their field—whether it's film, television, music, art or sports— and share a commitment to making the planet a better place.

We can add here our Goodwill Ambassadors images and a short bio, or a subpage that redirects the users to the ambassador’s page similar to the global one.
