About the Project
The Plastics Circularity Project aims to tackle plastic pollution in nine countries by improving waste management systems, deploying best practices and technologies, integrating informal waste workers, and promoting circular economy models. It will directly benefit over 70,000 people, including 34,560 women, and facilitate the recovery of over 55,000 tons of plastics.
Project Objectives

- Deploy Best Environmental Practices (BEP) and Best Available Technologies (BAT)
- Enhance national capacities and regulatory frameworks
- Promote inclusive and gender-responsive waste management
- Disseminate knowledge through training, digital platforms, and campaigns
Targeted Impact
Achievements so far
- 25 innovation teams received technical support to refine their ideas and network with mentors who are investors, businesspersons, academia experts and other stakeholders in plastic areas for collaboration opportunities to scale up their initiatives in addressing plastic pollution
- A grant amount of 240k was offered to 10 winners to pilot or scale up their solutions in practical, along with capacity building activities through Acceleration activities with experts and mentors provided by UNDP.
- 1 recycler and its supply chain comprising of 119 aggregators, junk shops and waste sellers have been engaged in Responsible Sourcing Initiative to provide deep insights and suggestion for remediation to improve the practice of this initiative in Northern Viet Nam.
- 3 management boards and 3 sub-departments of Fisheries have been engaged to support designing the model of bringing plastic waste from fishing boats back to shores across locations of Viet Nam (from the North to the South) and committed to joining the implementation phase which will start from September 2025.

Responsible Sourcing Initiative (Flyer)
Initiated by The Circulate Initiative (TCI), the Responsible Sourcing Initiative (RSI) brings together brands, investors, recyclers, and scrap suppliers to improve working conditions and rights for informal waste workers with an aim to create a more responsible and sustainable plastic recycling supply chain.
