At all times, the best minds of mankind tried to collect data on the biodiversity that inhabit our planet in many parts of the earth for their conservation. Thus, in Uzbekistan, over the years, accumulated whole libraries of books with information about animals and plants inhabiting the territory of Uzbekistan.

To facilitate the work with data on changes in natural processes today people increasingly use IT technologies. In Uzbekistan, ecologists and nature protection services are assisted in this by a joint project of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Global Environment Facility and the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Ecology and Environmental Protection "Sustainable use of natural resources and forest management in key mountain regions important for globally significant biodiversity ".

In close cooperation with representatives of the State Committee for Ecology, was developed The Biodiversity Conservation Information Management System (BCIMS). The ISMS is an online resource and is located on a separate server of the State Committee for Ecology, where you can store, combine and update data on flora and fauna (including data on national, globally threatened, as well as economically important species of animals and plants). The System also allows you to receive information about existing threats to biodiversity and take timely measures to prevent and eliminate them. The basis of the BCIMS is geodata. In other words, maps with precise geolocations, as well as various qualitative and quantitative data on the state of biological species, and related documentation (for example, data on the abundance and distribution of species, etc.). Thus, the BCIMS is a "repository" that contains information about scientific collections of biodiversity in Uzbekistan.

BCIMS (http://bcims.uznature.uz/) is a platform for official use. A website has been developed for open access (http://bcims.uznature.uz/wordpress/). Information Center for Biodiversity of Uzbekistan (ICBU), containing information on national and international legislation on nature management, national flora and fauna, on protected natural areas under state protection. To reach a larger audience, a blog forum will function on the site, where all users will be able to upload their photos, share comments, ask and receive answers from experts.

The developers of the BCIMS note that their work will provide substantial support to the State Committee for Ecology and all national partners involved in natural resource management in planning inside and outside protected natural areas. It is expected that the BCIMS and the MBMS will become an effective tool in biodiversity conservation, becoming a unique thing, providing a detailed picture in real time. Decision makers themselves will be able to browse the database and draw conclusions, making appropriate decisions. The uniqueness of the BCIMS platform is also in the fact of using the shapefiles, you can also view the attribute data at the bottom of the map.

Currently, for better coordination of interagency work, the System has been integrated with the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Land Resources, Geodesy, Cartography and State Cadastre (http://geoportal.uz/ru). Thus, users were given the opportunity to use powerful computing resources, opening access to huge archives and databases, which will allow them to process and quickly receive large amounts of data.
