UNDP Uzbekistan announces a contest among journalists and bloggers

The United Nations Development Program and the Ministry of Construction of the Republic of Uzbekistan invites journalists to challenge themselves by taking part in a contest for the best editorial material dedicated to the topic: "Green construction is the key to achieve sustainable economic development". Authors of the three best editorial pieces will be awarded with diplomas and valuable prizes

The competition aims to bring attention of the media and the public to the relevance of energy-efficient and low-carbon housing, as well as to  boost further interest in covering the UNDP's activities in order to raise public awareness on environmental consciousness and efficient energy consumption. The format of the open competition will enable to open a new perspective. The competition will also become a springboard for talented journalists who understand the topic well and is able to inspire others to learn and cover this subject both within the framework of this contest and beyond

Materials on "Green construction is the key to achieve sustainable economic development" must have been published in print or/and online publications in the period from January 1, 2020 to September 25, 2020, and can be presented in various formats:

- articles;

- video footage;

- radio or television reports;

- interviews;

- essays.

Authors of those materials must provide confirmation of the publication (a copy of a newspaper/magazine page, a link and screenshot of an Internet resource, an on-air certificate indicating the date and time of the material's release on TV/radio). Audio/video works must be uploaded to file hosting services, links to which participants will receive after registration.

Materials can be submitted in Uzbek, Karakalpak, Russian or English languages. In order to participate, an electronic application must be filled out and along with the competing material sent to contest.uz@undp.org no later than October 1, 2020.

After the evaluation of the materials, the competent jury will announce the results of the competition on October 15, 2020, and the winners will be awarded on October 22, 2020, the World Energy Day.

The joint project of UNDP/GEF and the Ministry of Construction of the Republic of Uzbekistan "Market Transformation for Sustainable Rural Housing in Uzbekistan" has been operating from 2017. The main goal of the program is to provide the rural population of Uzbekistan with improved, affordable and environmentally friendly houses. Within the framework of the joint Project, in five pilot regions of Uzbekistan, photovoltaic stations (PVs) with a capacity of 300 Watts were installed for lighting needs in 800 one-storey 3-room energy-efficient and low-carbon houses. Besides, solar water heaters for hot water supply with a capacity of 200 litres were introduced into 10 rural model houses
