Kyiv, 8 July 2025 – Parents and legal guardians of first graders will now be able to receive UAH 5,000 in state assistance to prepare their child for school. The government, at the initiative of the president of Ukraine, has approved the launch of a new payment – the Schoolchild’s Package.

Applications for assistance can be submitted via the Diia e-governance app. The project was developed by the Ministry of Social Policy together with the Ministry of Digital Transformation, Diia, the Ministry of Education and Science, and the Pension Fund of Ukraine. The project’s development was supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine within the framework of the DIA Support project, which is implemented with funding from Sweden.

The Schoolchild’s Package is a one-time payment for each child entering first grade this year. The UAH 5,000 in aid from the state can be spent on vital supplies for schoolchildren: stationery, clothes and shoes. This way, parents will be able to prepare their child for school, and first graders will receive everything they need to make a confident start to their studies.

After children are enrolled in the first grade, their parents or legal guardians will receive a notification in the Diia app. They can then fill out an application for the aid in Diia – and the assistance payment will subsequently be sent to their Diia.Card digital payment card within the Diia app.

The initiative partner is also the Swiss-Ukrainian project DECIDE (Decentralization for the Development of Democratic Education), implemented in Ukraine by a consortium consisting of the DOCCU NGO and the Zurich University of Education, with the support of Switzerland.
