UNDP and the UN
UNDP is committed to strengthening coherence, relevance, and agility of the UN system. Through steadfast efforts to foster more innovative and synergetic partnerships, UNDP continues to serve as a thought-leader and partner to amalgamate UN’s system-wide partnerships for an accelerated support towards the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
UNDP also plays a central as part of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group (UNSDG), a network of around 40 UN funds, programmes, specialized agencies and other bodies working to advance the 2030 Agenda. Together with the Deputy Secretary-General, who is the Chair of the UNSDG, the UNDP Administrator as the Vice-Chair steers strategic discussions and oversight to ensure that UN Development System (UNDS) entities deliver coherent, effective, and efficient support to countries in their pursuit of sustainable development.
UNDP also responds to Member States’ priorities and country contexts in realizing their ambitions towards the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs – also through strengthened coordination within the UN system at the country level, including by providing key system-wide services and country support platforms to support the implementation of the SDGs. UNDP also designs country programming to align and sequence with the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) in support of the UN’s system-wide coherence and strategic planning to implement development activities at the country level.
UNDP also reinforces joint action on development in such forums as the Economic and Social Council and the General Assembly of the United Nations.
