Connecting Climate Vulnerable Asian Countries for a Cross Country Exchange of Ideas and Experience on Climate Crisis

UNDP country offices in the Asia and the Pacific jointly with UNDP Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific are organizing an “Asian Pre-COP26 Dialogue: Connecting Climate Vulnerable Asian Countries for a Cross Country Exchange of Ideas and Experience on Climate Crisis” on 29 October at 2:PM Nepal Time, 03:15PM Bangkok Time. 

A joint initiative of UNDP country offices in Nepal, Bhutan, India, Pakistan, Thailand, Lao, Maldives, Mongolia, the dialogue aims to share and exchange country level experiences and ideas focusing on climate change in the run-up to the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, or COP26, scheduled to be held in the city of Glasgow, Scotland between 31 October and 12 November 2021, under the presidency of the United Kingdom.   

This event is expected to add to and amplify the ongoing discussions on climate change and access to climate financing and advocate for and communicate a strong joint voice from the participating Asian countries. The event will come up with a joint statement to be released ahead of COP26, besides highlighting country-level experiences at the local and regional level. The dialogue will focus on climate-sensitive sectors – such as waste, energy, agriculture, water resources, tourism, infrastructure and industry – viz-a-via the challenges faced by countries in walking the talk on NDC targets and accessing global climate financing.  

Country level and regional experts of climate change will share their own climate change related challenges and local innovative solutions, including around glacial lake outburst floods (GLOF), affordable and clean energy, water crisis, waste management, recycling, habitat conservation and so forth.
