Together with the Government of Japan, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the Maldives is happy to support Agro National Corporation (AgroNAT) in building first of its kind 'Agri-boat' to establish an effective and reliable transportation mechanism, enabling timely delivery of agricultural produce from farmers to markets and customers across the Maldives.
The Agri-boat's game-changing feature is its swift delivery of produce in cold and dry storage units, minimizing post-harvest losses. This development is crucial for island communities with limited access to fresh produce, ensuring a steady supply and enhancing food security.
Leveraging solar-powered cold storage units, the Agri-boat will reduce fuel consumption, costs, and carbon emissions. This commitment to sustainability aligns with the Maldives' goals, promoting a greener and more sustainable future in the agricultural sector.
The successful construction of the Agri-boat will be the result of collaborative efforts between the Ministry of Economic Development, Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture, Agro National Corporation and technical expertise of Maldives Police Service.
