UNDP Maldives, together with People's Majlis, has successfully concluded the fifth consecutive Practice Parliament for Women program. The program, held in two batches from 12th to 18th February and from 26th February to 04th March 2023, brought together 74 women leaders from all across the Maldives to further develop their interests in the political and decision-making processes. This total of 74 women participated in the two batches, with 8 of them being Persons with Disabilities

The Practice Parliament for Women program is an important initiative aimed at empowering women and promoting their participation in democratic processes. The series aims to provide the opportunity for women to build their capacity and confidence to participate in democratic processes, become change makers in their communities, and eventually contest for elected positions.

The Practice Parliament for Women program is a significant step towards achieving gender equality and promoting women's empowerment in the Maldives. It helps break down barriers and provides women with the skills and knowledge needed to make a meaningful impact in politics and governance.

The initiative, which has been running for three consecutive years, is supported by the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Australian High Commission, Sri Lanka and Maldives.
