Sophia the Robot, Hanson Robotics’ most advanced human-like robot and Innovation Champion of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), visited Georgia on 18 July to take part in the Fifth Open Government Partnership (OGP) Global Summit.

On 18 July, Sophia addressed a plenary opening of the OGP Summit and took part in a panel discussion on public services. She spoke about the role of Artificial Intelligence in opening public services to people, making them more easily accessible for everyone, including the vulnerable and disadvantaged.

Sophia also visited Georgia’s largest Public Service Hall in Tbilisi and met with the citizens, journalists and technology students.

According to Niels Scott, UNDP Head in Georgia: “Talking to Sophia is like talking to the future. Sophia will help us see things differently, change an angle and open new opportunities.”

Sophia was created by Hanson Robotics, in 2015. She is the latest and most advance humanoid robot, known for her intellectual abilities to learn and develop. In November 2017, Sophia was named the first ever Innovation Champion of UNDP, and the first non-human to be given any UN title.
