Health and Wellbeing

UNDP supports equitable access to health and social protection services, with a particular focus on women, youth, and the most vulnerable populations.

As the Principal Recipient of the Global Fund and in partnership with the Government of Angola, UNDP ensures the uninterrupted delivery of essential health services for people living with or affected by HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, and COVID-19 in selected provinces. UNDP also works with national and subnational health authorities, as well as civil society organisations, to improve the quality and coverage of prevention and treatment services at both the community and facility levels.

UNDP promotes community-based approaches that elevate the leadership of civil society and key populations, helping to eliminate gender and human rights barriers to sexual and reproductive health. Special attention is given to adolescent girls, young women, and other marginalised groups, ensuring their active participation in the design, implementation, and monitoring of health interventions.

Aligned with the Ministry of Health’s priorities, UNDP leverages its Digital Strategy 2022–2025 to foster local innovation ecosystems and identify opportunities for developing digital skills. A key focus is strengthening logistics information systems to ensure efficient supply chains and continuous delivery of quality medicines and care to vulnerable populations, including people living with HIV and those affected by malaria, tuberculosis, or COVID-19.

UNDP adopts a comprehensive and systems-based approach to health, seeking synergies across all programme areas. It works closely with partners such as ANASO, ADPP, ADRA, Dom Bosco, Mosaiko, Iris, Ondjango Feminista, and AIA.

In line with the “Delivering as One” approach and UN reform, UNDP also maintains strong partnerships with WHO, for the design of national health programmes; UNAIDS, on human rights, key populations, and LGBTQI+ inclusion; UNFPA, to advance sexual and reproductive health rights, gender equality, and the empowerment of women and girls.
