UNDP Team in Angola
UNDP team in the country is led by Resident Representative Denise António, with Gabriel Dava serving as Deputy Resident Representative for Program and Operations.
The UNDP Resident Representative in Angola, Denise António, an American, arrived in the country to serve as UNDP Resident Representative in Angola on October 26, 2023.
Denise António has a master's degree in Public Accounting and a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Accounting from Adelphi University, New York. With extensive professional experience, the new UNDP Representative in Angola has 25 years of experience in the United Nations System.
Previously, Denise António served as UNDP Resident Representative in Jamaica, Belize, Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, the Bahamas, and the Turks and Caicos Islands (2019-2023). During her professional career, she has held the positions of Deputy Director (Operations) of the UNDP in Angola (2015-2019); Zimbabwe (2011-2015) and Deputy Resident Representative (Operations) in Ghana (2006-2011).
Denise António was responsible for the budget of the United Nations Mission in Côte d'Ivoire (UNOCI) in Abidjan (2005-2006). Between 1998 and 2005, she was also responsible for accounting at the United Nations Peacekeeping Organization in New York (2000-2005) and Financial Systems Specialist at UNFPA (1998-2000).
Before joining the United Nations, Denise António held several positions of responsibility in the US, such as Accounting Manager at the International Herald Tribune (1995-1996); Senior Internal Auditor at The New York Times Company (1990-1995) and Auditor at New York Life Insurance Company (1988-1990).
The Deputy Resident Representative for Angola has over 15 years of experience at UNDP in various roles, during which time he has led the formulation and management of programs and projects in a wide range of thematic areas.
Prior to his assignment to Angola, he worked as Deputy Resident Representative in countries such as South Africa, Guinea-Bissau, Namibia, and São Tomé and Príncipe, and as Head of the Poverty Reduction Unit at UNDP Mozambique.
Gabriel Dava also served as Director and Economic Advisor at the Canadian International Development Agency for 10 years, as Senior Officer in the Government of Mozambique, in the Ministry of Social Action, and as Poverty Analysis Specialist in the Ministry of Planning and Finance.
Gabriel Dava holds a degree in Business Administration from Eduardo Mondlane University in Mozambique and a Master's degree in Finance for Development from the University of London – School of African and Oriental Studies.
