In collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan, we have launched an initiative to equip rural medical facilities. This initiative is implemented as part of a project financed by the Islamic Development Bank and the OPEC Fund for International Development, aimed at supporting 170 pilot communities in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, as well as Khorezm, Bukhara, and Navoi regions.

Objective of the Pilot Initiative

The initiative aims to provide high-quality primary healthcare in rural areas through:

  1. Digital Integration – connecting medical facilities to the national digital healthcare system to enable efficient data and resource management.
  2. Capacity Building – training medical personnel to use new equipment and digital tools.
  3. Optimizing Patient Information Management – equipping healthcare facilities with computers and e-tablets to improve patient registration and monitoring of their health status.

Benefits for the Local Population

This initiative will provide the local population with more accessible and higher-quality medical services. Residents of the rural areas will receive timely primary healthcare, while digital integration will enable medical personnel to efficiently maintain records, monitor patient conditions, and provide remote consultations via telemedicine. This is particularly significant for remote regions where access to medical specialists is limited. Improved diagnostic quality and regular health monitoring will enhance the quality of life and overall well-being of the population.

Medical Facilities that Have Received the Equipment

Modern equipment has been supplied to the following rural medical facilities:

  1. Family Polyclinic №66 – Kilchinok mahalla, Ellikkala District, Republic of Karakalpakstan;
  2. Family Healthcare Facility – Uzgarish mahalla, Bagat District, Khorezm Region;
  3. Family Healthcare Facility – Galaosiyo mahalla, Sakhovat, Bukhara district, Bukhara Region;
  4. Family Healthcare Facility – Azamat mahalla, Azamat, Karmana District, Navoi Region.

Equipping the Medical Facilities

The aforementioned four healthcare facilities will be equipped with modern digital tools, including:

  • 2 desktop computers for administrative and medical tasks.
  • 3 tablets for inputting patient data, conducting home visits, telemedicine services, and accessing medical records.
  • 1 multifunctional printer for efficient documentation.
  • 2 uninterruptible power supply (UPS) units to ensure functionality during power outages.

Training Program

To ensure the effective use of the new equipment and digital systems, integrated training will be provided to medical personnel, including:

  • Training on equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Practical training on using the healthcare system, including patient data management and telemedicine services, under the guidance of experts from the Ministry of Health.

Expected Outcomes

Equipping rural medical facilities with modern technology and providing training will significantly improve the accessibility and quality of healthcare services in remote regions. Integration with the national digital healthcare system will ensure more efficient data exchange and resource management, ultimately leading to improved health indicators for rural populations.

This initiative has been implemented by the joint project of the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan and UNDP "Sustainable Rural Development", financed by Islamic Development Bank and OPEC Fund for International Development.
