A new service, For Defenders and Their Families, has been launched on the Diia portal. It allows military personnel, veterans, and families of fallen defenders to submit a single application to access multiple government services at once.

The initiative is being implemented by the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine in collaboration with the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, the Ministry of Social Policy, and the Ministry of Defence. This effort is assisted by the DIA Support Project, which is implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine with funding from Sweden.

Users can now apply online for the following:

  • status of a person with a war-related disability,
  • status of a family member of a fallen (deceased) Defender of Ukraine,
  • one-time financial assistance from the Ministry of Veterans Affairs,
  • social services for individuals in difficult life circumstances.

The range of available services will be expanded in the future.

Previously, obtaining these services required filling out several applications. Now, everything can be processed simultaneously. There is no need to submit documents in stages or visit various institutions – you can now submit your application and receive the results entirely online through the Diia portal.

This service is available to:

  • Military personnel and veterans with a war-related disability, provided the disability status was established after 1 June 2024.
  • Family members of the fallen (deceased), who may apply on their own behalf or on behalf of a child of the deceased.

Applications are processed within five to 30 calendar days, depending on the services selected. Review times may be extended if additional information is required from the applicant or other government agencies.

Most data is automatically retrieved from state registers. In some instances, you may be asked to provide additional documents. The results will be sent to your email and will appear in your user profile on the Diia portal.

UNDP, in partnership with Sweden, remains committed to supporting the Ukrainian government in creating new electronic services for veterans to simplify their interaction, or the interaction of their family members, with the state. This initiative builds on previous developments, such as the digital veteran's ID and Veteran PRO – a unified digital space for veterans. Furthermore, these partners have supported the launch of notifications regarding tuition compensation for veterans’ children, the issuance of extracts from the Unified State Register of Veteransobtaining two statuses for veterans and their families, and comprehensive services for specialists in veteran support.
