UNDP stands in solidarity with the Government and people of the Commonwealth of Dominica following the impact of heavy rains in the east and northeastern districts of the island on 26 April 2026, which has limited movement and access in affected areas.

"We reaffirm our commitment to supporting national response and recovery efforts, with a strong focus on the most affected and vulnerable communities," said UNDP's Resident Representative for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Limya Eltayeb.

In coordination with national authorities and within Dominica’s activated emergency response mechanisms, UNDP is supporting efforts to restore access to impacted communities and to deliver immediate, people‑centred relief.

While a rapid assessment is underway, UNDP is working alongside the Government, local institutions and international partners to strengthen community resilience, protect livelihoods, and support a swift, inclusive recovery that leaves no one behind.

UNDP personnel were among the partners engaging with residents and Government officials during visits on 27 April to areas affected by the heavy rainfall.
