UNDP in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean

Funding and delivery

Where does our money come from and what do we spend it on?

UNDP Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean serves ten (10) Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and receives funding from several sources. Contributions toward the administration are provided by UNDP Headquarters and the Regional Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean (RBLAC), along with the Government of Barbados which hosts the Sub-regional Office (SRO) and the governments of the Eastern Caribbean States who individually make Government Local Office Contributions (GLOC) and voluntary contributions. A larger portion of our funding also comes from our development partners.

Within the programming, resources are obtained from donors whose interests are aligned with those of UNDP and the Subregional office, particularly in the areas of Sustainable Human Development and Inclusive Governance, Energy, Environment & Climate Change and Disaster Risk Resilience. Funding is raised through resource mobilization by Senior Management and Programme Managers using their various networks to tap into appropriate resources that are available. In this way critical resources have been obtained from our many partners to support various initiatives.

The development challenges of the Sub-Region continue to increase despite the difficulties of dwindling donor funding and so, the Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Multi-country Office (MCO) is committed to continuing its resource mobilization efforts using its delivery record and the relevance of interventions as a key selling point.

The number and diversity of donors contributing to UNDP programmes confirms the confidence of the national government and the international and local community in our role as a partner of choice for sustainable development.
