UNDP Recruitment

The recruitment and selection of staff members at UNDP is guided by five principles:

  • Competition — Selection follows a visible and fair competitive process for all vacancies.  
  • Objectivity — Screening is conducted with professional rigor, with candidates measured against clearly articulated criteria, job skills, competencies and corporate priorities.  
  • Transparency — Recruitment and selection criteria, and all phases of the process, are transparent to staff and candidates to the fullest extent possible.  
  • Diversity — UNDP is committed to workforce diversity. Women, persons with disabilities, ethnic or religious minorities, persons living with HIV, as well as refugees and other non-citizens legally entitled to work at UNDP, are particularly encouraged to apply.  
  • Accountability — Hiring managers are accountable both for their selection proposals and for the way they follow recruitment processes.  

 

Types of Opportunities

UNDP hires personnel through international and local recruitment. Contract types vary depending on the legal basis and duration of services.

Standard contract types include:

  • Fixed Term Appointment (FTA) — nationals and international  
  • Temporary Appointment (TA) — nationals and international  
  • National Personnel Service Agreement (NPSA)  
  • International Personnel Service Agreement (IPSA)
