AI Summit in Sarajevo: UNDP on the Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence

September 24, 2025

At the upcoming "Kiss the Future" AI Summit, which begins on 25 September in Sarajevo, Renaud Meyer, UNDP Resident Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, will deliver a keynote address entitled “AI for Accelerating Human Development: What Choices Lie Ahead for Bosnia and Herzegovina?”

Meyer will present key findings from the 2025 Human Development Report – People and Possibilities in the Age of AI, which shows that although Bosnia and Herzegovina falls into the group of countries with “Very High Human Development,” it loses over 13% of its achieved score due to inequality and 15% due to environmental pressures. Special emphasis will be placed on results from UNDP research on the use of AI in public administration: as many as 70% of civil servants at the state level already use AI tools, but almost 95% have never received training, while young people, through UNICEF’s U-Report, say they do not feel prepared for jobs requiring AI skills.

“As artificial intelligence transforms our world, Bosnia and Herzegovina faces a choice – will AI deepen existing inequalities or open new opportunities for all? This is not a conversation about technology, but about people, their rights, and their opportunities. UNDP stands ready to offer global knowledge and tools to ensure that no one is left behind,” said Renaud Meyer, UNDP Resident Representative.

At the Summit, UNDP will also announce its first joint steps with the Ministry of Communications and Transport of BiH to strengthen the responsible use of AI in public administration and to launch a dialogue on applying global and EU policies and regulations on the application of artificial intelligence in the context of human rights and sustainable development.

The two-day summit, organized by the Blum Institute - the first AI research institute in Bosnia and Herzegovina,  in partnership with Bloomteq company, represents the largest artificial intelligence event in Southeast Europe. Taking place under the patronage of the Presidency of BiH and with support from UniCredit Bank, the conference will bring together over 1500 participants and 40+ international experts from leading AI companies.

The AI Summit program spans five specialized venues across central Sarajevo, including the National Theatre for strategic discussions, the Youth Theatre for technical workshops, and the Chamber Theatre for applied business AI sessions. Alongside UNDP's keynote, the event will feature the launch of the "Sarajevo Initiative" - a global campaign for responsible AI governance led by international experts.
