The discussion highlighted several areas of mutual interest, including enhancing value addition through improved fish processing, expanding sustainable financing mechanisms, empowering women in small-scale fish processing, and strengthening climate resilience in the fisheries sector.

Mr. Cheema reaffirmed UNDP’s commitment to supporting the Government of Maldives through ongoing work in blue finance, climate-smart fisheries, and reef insurance. Both parties expressed strong interest in aligning efforts and deepening cooperation to drive inclusive, climate-informed action in the fisheries and ocean sector.

UNDP looks forward to working closely with MFOR to support national priorities and ensure long-term sustainability and resilience for ocean-dependent communities in the Maldives.
