In the hills of Jumla and Bajura, nutrient-dense indigenous crops such as finger millet, foxtail millet (Kaguno), proso millet (Chino), buckwheat, bajra, sorghum, Jumli beans, red Marsi rice, walnuts, apples, and fresh vegetables flourish and serve as vital pillars of food and nutrition security. However, with the rise of globalized food systems, modern agriculture, and shifting dietary habits, these traditional crops are increasingly being neglected even by the farming communities that grow them.

This recipe book brings together both traditional and innovative recipes using locally grown, nutritious ingredients. It aims to encourage local communities and schools to incorporate these foods into daily meals enhancing nutrition while preserving cultural food heritage.
Developed under the Renewable Energy for Resilient Agri-Food Systems (RERAS) project, the book seeks to raise awareness of the nutritional value of indigenous crops and promote their cultivation and consumption to strengthen resilient, local food systems.
