Ministry of Finance and UNDP Initiate Major Upgrade to Nepal's Aid Information Management System
March 29, 2023
29 March, 2023. Kathmandu, Nepal – In collaboration with the Ministry of Finance International Economic Cooperation Coordination Division (IECCD), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is set to implement a significant upgrade to the Government of Nepal's Aid Information Management System (AMIS).
The upgrade to the AMIS, as part of the Effective Development Financing and Coordination II (EDFC-II) project implemented by UNDP, will enhance the ability of the Ministry of Finance to monitor, coordinate, forecast, and report on a broader range of development finance flows while strengthening line ministry and development stakeholder capacities to coordinate development finance flows.
Mr Narayan Dhakal, Under Secretary, International Economic Cooperation Coordination Division, Ministry of Finance, stated, "It is a great privilege to be involved in this initiative to enhance transparency and accountability here in Nepal. Upgrading the Aid Information Management System represents an important step towards promoting greater development effectiveness and improving development outcomes in the country. By fostering an environment that encourages transparency and accountability in the allocation of development assistance, we can lay a stronger foundation for the effective and efficient implementation of development projects in Nepal."
In line with this initiative, UNDP has selected NAXA, a leading technology consulting company, to carry out the upgrade.
Funded by the United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and UNDP, and implemented through UNDP's national implementation modality that promotes national ownership and fosters institutional capacity development among government counterparts, the Effective Development Financing and Coordination II (EDFC-II) project is a four-year initiative aimed at accelerating Nepal's achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by increasing the availability and ensuring the effective use of a more diverse range of development finance. The project focuses on two key objectives: building the capacity of the Government of Nepal to mobilise and manage development finance effectively and increasing the availability and use of high-quality, comprehensive, and timely development finance data.
The current initiative is based on previous support that UNDP provided in 2009 through the Developing Capacities for Effective Aid Management and Coordination (DCEAMC) project. The DCEAMC project was funded by UNDP, DFID, and DANIDA and aimed to assist Nepal’s Ministry of Finance with software tools and institutional strengthening activities designed to enhance the availability of aid information at the country level.
