UNDP Launches Integra Initiative to Strengthen Integrity in Extractive Sector in Mongolia
April 18, 2025

Ulaanbaatar, 18 April 2025 – UN Development Programme (UNDP) in Mongolia launched the Integra Initiative: Integrity for Public Goods and Services in the Extractive Sector, a multi-country programme implemented by UNDP in partnership with the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources. The programme is supported by the Governments of Republic of Korea, Denmark and Luxembourg through UNDP’s Funding Window for Governance, Peacebuilding, Crisis and Resilience. The initiative aims to promote transparency, accountability, and more inclusive governance in the mining sector.
Mongolia is one of four pilot countries, alongside Angola, Madagascar, and Zimbabwe, to implement the Integra Initiative. It focuses on identifying and mitigating integrity risks in the management of natural resources, particularly mining, through innovative, inclusive, and gender-sensitive approaches. The initiative also includes small grants to support local and national stakeholders in testing practical and innovative solutions.

Mr. Javkhlanbaatar Sereeter, State Secretary of the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, emphasized the government’s commitment: “We welcome the Integra Initiative as a valuable platform to strengthen governance in our sector. It aligns with our national reforms to ensure the transparent and responsible management of mineral resources.”

UNDP Resident Representative in Mongolia Ms. Matilda Dimovska stressed the broader relevance of the initiative: “Integrity, derived from the Latin integra, means being whole and consistent, especially when no one is watching. It is the invisible thread that weaves trust into public service. Strengthening integrity is not only a matter of ethics, but a strategic pathway to improve service delivery, rebuild trust, and accelerate sustainable development.”
As part of UNDP’s global Governance for People and Planet programme, the Integra Initiative in Mongolia contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by embedding governance at the core of environmental sustainability, gender equality, and inclusive growth.
