Ulaanbaatar, 1 September 2026 – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the Medicine and Medical Device Regulatory Agency of Mongolia (MMRA), today officially handed over VIII, IX recombinant coagulation factors for the treatment of haemophilia to the National Blood Centre, under the “Procurement of Essential Medicines” project.
The initiative is part of a broader cooperation between UNDP and the Government of Mongolia to strengthen Mongolia’s pharmaceutical supply system and improve access to quality-assured medicines. It focuses on treatments that are essential for patients, require long-term use, or face a high risk of supply disruption.
These recombinant coagulation factors will help improve the availability of haemophilia treatment and support uninterrupted care for patients who depend on these medicines. The handover builds on the Memorandum of Understanding signed between UNDP and the Ministry of Health in February 2026 to strengthen access to essential medicines. In April 2026, UNDP and MMRA signed an agreement to implement the “Procurement of Essential Medicines” project, further advancing efforts to ensure a reliable supply of quality-assured treatments in Mongolia.
H.E. Batshugar Enkhbayar, Minister of Health, stated “By working with UNDP to secure these medicines, we achieved savings of MNT 350 million through reduced unit prices, enabling us to add three essential medicines that could not previously be accommodated within the available budget. As a result, a total of five types of recombinant coagulation factors for the treatment of haemophilia are being handed over today to the National Centre for Blood Transfusion and Research.”
Ms. Altantsetseg Purvee, Director of Medicine and Medical Device Regulatory Agency of Mongolia, noted “This cooperation supports our efforts to ensure a reliable supply of medicines that meet international quality and safety standards and provide effective treatment, while strengthening medicine regulation and oversight. Working with UNDP enables us to secure essential medicines that are vulnerable to supply disruptions from qualified manufacturers, further strengthening the quality and reliability of medicines available to the public.”
