The National Steering Committee of “Accelerating Mongolia’s Inclusive Green Economy Transition” Project Convened Its First Meeting
January 27, 2026
Ulaanbaatar, 27 January 2026. “Accelerating Mongolia’s Inclusive Green Economy Transition” project implemented under United Nations Multi-Partner Trust Fund “Partnership for Action on Green Economy” (PAGE) initiative convened its first National Steering Committee meeting. Aimed to advance Mongolia’s transition toward an inclusive and green economy, the project is co-implemented by UN agencies including UNDP as coordinating agency, ILO, UNEP and UNITAR in partnership with the Government of Mongolia.
The project National Steering Committee, composed of representatives of government institutions, implementing partners and stakeholders, reviewed the progress of the project implementation in 2025 and discussed the project work plan for 2026.
Since its launch in June 2025, the project has provided extensive technical support to embed inclusive green economy principles into Mongolia’s medium‑term development planning. The result‑based methodology reflecting international commitments was approved by Parliament, marking major progress toward aligning national planning with global sustainability goals. The project also contributed to drafting the Environment and Green Economy chapter of the Five‑Year Development Guidelines 2026–2030, resulting in the inclusion of 39 green‑related outcomes, 61 performance indicators, and 76 SDG‑linked indicators in the approved plan. Furthermore, the project helped strengthen social dialogue on a just transition by bringing together government, employers, and trade unions to address the labour market implications of climate change and climate action, underscoring the need to place decent work at the centre of Mongolia’s green economy transition.
Looking ahead, the project will further advance Mongolia’s green financing strategy and mechanisms and strengthen institutional capacities through training for government finance officers and key institutions. In parallel, the project will produce a policy brief on social protection to outline essential measures for safeguarding workers during the transition.
