April 19, 2023

Starting from 19 April, the documentary film "Missing Home", directed by Diana Vlas, is available on YouTube.

Produced with the support of OWH Studio, UNDP, and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, the film collects stories about migration and families who missed home and returned to Moldova. Filmed in the village of Izvoare, Florești district, the director's hometown, during eight months and three seasons in 2019-2020, the production gained high popularity both in Moldova and abroad.

The documentary revolves around the narratives of three families who returned to Moldova due to their longing for home. The film crew collected the stories by going door to door and talking with people who have worked or are currently working abroad or have family members living outside the country. The film portrays the emotions of the returning migrants and the reality of Moldovan villages from a less ordinary perspective.

"Homesickness is a notion that can be heard in almost every family in Moldova. And although their stories may be different, the emotion is the same. After the first screenings of the film, we received many messages requesting a link to share with those who are far away from home and need a similar message, like the one found in the film. Therefore, we have decided to make it available to the public," says film-maker Diana Vlas.

Due to multiple requests for online distribution so that the film could be viewed by as many Moldovan migrants as possible, "Missing Home" was made available to the public on YouTube.

Diana Vlas presented initially the idea for the film "Missing Home" in 2019 as part of the WeDocMigration initiative organized by OWH Studio, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme and with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, where she also received the necessary support for its production.
