Plastic Innovation Proposal Development Workshop

Part of GEF-SGP UNDP Plastic Innovation Call

August 20, 2022

Fuvahmulah City, August 18 to 21, 2022:

Harmful chemicals from plastic waste are critically threatening our ecosystem and human health. The Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (GEF-SGP) implemented by UNDP are conducting a Plastic Innovation Proposal Development Workshop in Fuvahmulah City from August 18 to 21,  to promote local innovations and grassroot solutions on plastics and waste management.

The Plastic Innovation Proposal Development Workshop supports GEF-SGP and UNDP Plastic Innovation Call where grants of up to US$100,000 are being given out to NGOs, CSOs and community groups towards solutions and innovations to address plastic pollution.

The Plastic Innovation Call focuses on local innovations and grassroot solutions on plastic pollution including development and implementation of waste management models, advocacy and education and campaigns in Fuvahmulah City.

Participated by NGOs working in the waste sector, Fuvahmulah City Council and Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) the Plastic Innovation Proposal Development Workshop focuses on proposal development, budgeting, results-based monitoring, evaluation and management as well as incorporating the Sustainable Development Goals into project implementation.

Putting people and communities at the heart of plastics and waste management can promote circular economy. The Plastic Innovation Call by the GEF-SGP and UNDP considers entry points, good practices, challenges and a way forward for long-term sustainable development.
