UNDP Maldives Signs Agreement with the Government of Maldives on Bulk Procurement of Medicine to the Maldives

June 1, 2023

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the Maldives has signed an agreement with the Government of Maldives on the bulk procurement of medicine to the Maldives through UNDP’s global health procurement services, bringing high-quality medicine to Maldives’ doorstep at a lower cost.

Globally, UNDP is supporting many countries to procure life savings medicines and, more importantly, to build government capacities to strengthen health procurement.

From UNDP’s perspective, this is an important intervention that will support in creating much-needed fiscal savings that can be re-invested in healthcare and the wider social sector.

The signed agreement is a symbol of commitment to the continuity of the universal health insurance scheme of the Maldives, ‘Aasandha’, and in achieving SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being.
