July 18, 2023

The Judicial Academy in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the Maldives, organized a 2nd refresher session for judiciary staff to address sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) by implementing prevention measures and corrective actions.

A total of 30 participants from the Supreme Court, High Court and the Department of Judicial Administration took part in the session. The session was held jointly together with the United Nations (UN) in the Maldives, the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) in the Maldives to roll out awareness, prevention measures and address root causes.

The training is important for the judicial sector because it equips judiciary staff with the necessary knowledge and tools to effectively address and combat sexual exploitation and abuse. By providing a comprehensive understanding of prevention measures and corrective actions, the training helps in fostering a safer and more secure work environment, while also ensuring that the legal system can respond efficiently to cases of sexual exploitation and abuse. Furthermore, it enhances the judiciary's capacity to protect victims and deliver justice while upholding the principles of fairness and equity, thus promoting a more just and accountable society.
