A two-day training is bringing together legal professionals to strengthen rights-based legal practice and strategic litigation on environmental and climate justice in the Maldives.

On 2 February 2026, a two-day specialized training for lawyers got underway, focused on strengthening rights-based legal practice and strategic litigation on environmental and climate justice in the Maldives.

The first day of the training covered international environmental law and human rights frameworks, recent global developments, and the role of Maldivian courts in upholding constitutional environmental rights. The sessions highlighted how global principles can be meaningfully linked to national legal practice, helping build stronger legal responses to environmental and climate-related challenges.

Co-organized by the Bar Council of the Maldives and UNDP Maldives, the training provides a platform for lawyers to deepen their understanding of the legal dimensions of environmental protection and climate justice. The initiative is supported by the Government of Sweden.
