February 1, 2026
The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives engaged with UNDP and UNDP Policy Specialist Sean O’Connell to explore how the Right to a Healthy Environment tool can strengthen research and reporting through a human rights-based approach.
On 1 February 2026, the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) held discussions with UNDP and Mr. Sean O’Connell, UNDP Policy Specialist on Rule of Law, Security and Human Rights, on integrating the Right to a Healthy Environment tool into HRCM’s research and reporting processes.
The discussion focused on how the tool can support stronger analysis of environmental issues through a human rights lens, while contributing to more informed and evidence-based reporting. It also explored ways to strengthen institutional capacity to better understand the relationship between human rights, the environment, and sustainable development.
The engagement reflects continued collaboration between HRCM and UNDP Maldives to advance rights-based approaches and support stronger systems for research, analysis and reporting in the Maldives.
