A two-day training on the Social Innovation Platform (SIP) approach was held in Kulhudhuffushi City, bringing together participants from UNDP Maldives, the Kulhudhuffushi City Council, the Local Government Authority, and the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works.
Led by the UNDP Bangkok Regional Hub, the training is part of a regional initiative being implemented in six countries across the Asia-Pacific region. It equipped participants with people-centered tools such as systems thinking, deep listening, and collaborative innovation to identify community challenges and co-create solutions with citizens.
The programme also included direct engagement with local stakeholders to gather insights and apply the new skills to develop a subnational portfolio for Kulhudhuffushi. This initiative reflects the city’s leadership, under the Mayor and City Council, in advancing inclusive, future-ready planning and sustainable local development.
“Kulhudhuffushi’s leadership in championing inclusive, future-ready planning and local development is truly inspiring. Together, we’re applying people-centered tools—systems thinking, deep listening, and innovation—for a resilient and sustainable city,” said Dianna Torrís, UNDP RBAP Regional Governance Advisor.
UNDP Maldives, working alongside the Anti-Corruption Commission and local institutions, continues to strengthen governance systems, foster transparency, and promote citizen participation—ensuring that local action drives progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.
