At just 15, Alibek, a 9th-grade student at School No. 62 in Bishkek, is already trying to make a difference in his community. For him, ecology isn’t just a subject at school, it’s a personal mission.

“I talk to my friends and family about the importance of caring for the environment and participating in eco-initiatives,” he says. “That’s how I help build a responsible attitude toward nature in my community.”
Alibek’s dream is simple: a greener, safer, more sustainable Bishkek. He envisions a city with more parks and trees, where pedestrians and cyclists feel safe, and where the urban environment is designed not just for convenience, but for people and the planet.
Through his example, Alibek proves that even small daily choices can shape the future.
He was one of many young people who participated in the Youth Climate Caravan 2025, a nationwide initiative that brought together youth from all seven regions of the Kyrgyz Republic. Through workshops, discussions, and community dialogues, the Caravan strengthened climate literacy and collected youth-led recommendations for the country’s new Nationally Determined Contribution NDC 3.0, the official roadmap for climate action in Kyrgyzstan.
The NDC 3.0 update is led by the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision to advance its national climate commitments under the Paris Agreement. The initiative is part of Kyrgyzstan’s broader efforts UNDP supports the country in both the development and implementation of these commitments under the Climate Promise, ensuring inclusive, ambitious, and actionable climate action that reflects the priorities of all, especially youth.
