Gender Equality
Making gender equality a reality is a core commitment of UNDP as women empowerment and gender equality is vital to achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which envisions a world of universal respect for human rights and human dignity in which every woman and girl enjoys full gender equality and all legal, social and economic barriers to their empowerment have been removed. UNDP in Kyrgyzstan integrates gender equality principles across its all areas of work: sustainable development, democratic governance and peacebuilding, climate and disaster resilience by working with the government, civil society and local communities.
Based on its Gender Equality Strategy 2018-2022, UNDP in Kyrgyzstan not only mainstreams principles of gender equality in programming through different mechanisms to strengthen institutional commitment to gender equality such as conducting gender screening, monitoring and evaluation, communications, project budget allocation to gender-specific activities. UNDP Gender Task Force in Kyrgyzstan has the functions to oversee the gender-related regulations as per the UNDP Gender Seal Certification.
UNDP, jointly with other United Nations organizations and development partners including the European Union, Japan, Switzerland, Finland, the Russian Federation, Germany, UN PBF and INL supports the country in securing and sustaining the recent gains and promoting peace, justice, and the rule of law. The assistance will focus on accountability, transparency, the effectiveness, and efficiency of institutions to respond to citizens’ expectations for rule of law and justice, more effective services, and development.
Peace and Development Programme seeks to support the development of the national capacity to identify, understand and peacefully respond to conflicts and their root causes. It focuses on strengthening mechanisms and structures that contribute to social cohesion, tolerance and peace. Our work in the area of fighting HIV and TB in cooperation with the Global Fund is aimed at decreasing incidences of infections and sustaining already registered cases in the country through expansion of available services to vulnerable populations, improving universal access to treatment and strengthening national institutions.
Our Sustainable and Inclusive Economic Growth cluster supports Kyrgyzstan both macro level (policy advice) and micro level (grassroots activities). We support priorities set forth by the Kyrgyz Government through assistance in developing and implementing policies and strategies that support socioeconomic advancement for the country. In this end, the programme participates in and supports analytical work to help policy makers come to better informed decisions.
Programme activities prioritize women, youth, ethnic minorities, and people with disabilities to benefit from improved services and infrastructure, vocational education and training, access to resources, and sustainable jobs and livelihoods.
Jointly with other UN agencies and development partners, UNDP is committed to supporting urban and rural communities, especially those with high poverty rates and conflict-prone areas, in implementing comprehensive, risk-informed, and area-based development interventions.
