In Felix Park, Saint Andrew, a local poultry business is demonstrating how digital innovation can strengthen food security, boost productivity and reduce environmental impact – all while supporting climate-resilient agriculture in Grenada.

Grenada Chick Inn Farm Limited, one of the country’s leading poultry producers, is now leveraging digital technology to modernise processes that were once heavily dependent on manual labour. Through grant support under the Blue-Green Digital Innovation Challenge, part of the Climate-Resilient Agriculture (CRA) Programme, the farm has integrated climate-smart digital systems into its operations.

The upgrade allows the farm to optimise feed, water and energy use during the rearing of chicks. Climate control sensors and a centralised computer system now regulate temperature, humidity, airflow, feed distribution and water pressure in real time – creating an ideal environment for the birds to thrive.

“We developed a vertically integrated poultry operation where we hatch, grow, process and freeze and package, in addition to distribution."

The impact has been substantial. With digital monitoring and automated controls, birds reach target weights faster while consuming less feed over their lifecycle. What previously required higher inputs over a longer rearing period can now be achieved more efficiently - cutting costs, improving productivity and reducing emissions.

Beyond operational efficiency, the innovation is contributing to Grenada’s broader food security goals. Grenada Chick Inn Farm Limited now operates the largest poultry growing facility on the island, with capacity to rear more than 75,000 chicks at a time. As production scales up, the farm is positioned to reduce the country’s reliance on imported poultry products, ensuring fresher, more affordable protein produced locally.

The initiative reflects the broader objectives of the Climate-Resilient Agriculture Programme, which supports entrepreneurs and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises to adopt modern, climate-smart technologies. By encouraging the integration of digital solutions, the project helps local agribusinesses strengthen resilience while remaining competitive in a changing climate.

The Blue-Green Digital Innovation Challenge represents a significant step forward for Grenada’s agricultural sector. Launched by the Government of Grenada with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Multi-Country Office for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean and the Global Environment Facility (GEF), initiatives like this are helping to unlock innovation, empower local businesses and pave the way for a more sustainable and resilient agricultural future for Grenada.
