St. George's, GRENADA - When disaster strikes, recovery is just the beginning. Building resilience ensures communities can withstand future shocks. UNDP supports nations to recover stronger, adapt to climate risks, and protect lives and livelihoods.
UNDP Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean continues its support to the Government of Grenada by strengthening resilience among fisherfolk affected by Hurricane Beryl. Responding to a request from the Fisheries Department, UNDP procured essential equipment to boost operational capacity and help safeguard the livelihoods of the fishing community. The items, valued around EC$54,400, include:
- Adult universal life vests
- VHF handheld floating radios
- GPS handheld units with sail assist
- Hand-bearing compasses with lights
- Mooring buoys
- Jerrycans
UNDP's Cluster Lead for Prevention, Recovery and Resilience, Mrs. Elizabeth Charles-Soomer, officially presented the items to the Fisheries Department in Grenada on 24 November. This support forms part of UNDP’s ongoing commitment to advancing country-led development priorities and building resilience across the region.
