Building knowledge and skills of local partners and communities to address environmental insecurities through innovative air, land, and water management solutions in the Aral Sea region
Our joint programme with the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan and FAO aims to improve ecosystem services management and introduce innovative approaches to address environmental degradation in the Aral Sea region. The programme covers three northern districts of Karakalpakstan (Kungrad, Muynak, and Takhtakupir) with a population of over 376,000 people. Key focus areas include: comprehensive assessment of ecosystem services, implementation of innovative approaches to water purification, afforestation and sand soil stabilization, as well as establishment of integrated air, water, and soil quality monitoring systems. The programme is implemented with financial support from the UN Multi-Partner Human Security Trust Fund for the Aral Sea region.
