The United Nations Development Programme will support startup initiatives in Karakalpakstan

August 30, 2022, Nukus, Karakalpakstan. Today, equipment and inventory is presented at the Youth Center to the winners of the 1st cycle of startup projects aged 18-30 years from the Kungrad, Muynak, Bozatau districts and the city of Nukus. The event is held within the framework of the Joint Program of UNDP, UNFPA, FAO "Promoting the creative and innovative potential of youth and vulnerable populations by strengthening their adaptive capacity to solve problems of economic and food security in vulnerable communities of the Aral Sea region", funded by the United Nations Multi-Partner Trust Fund for Human Security for the Aral Sea Region in Uzbekistan.

Startup projects that have been selected on a competitive basis have received funding from the United Nations Development Program for implementation. The main directions of ideas for startup projects are:

  • economy
  • social sphere
  • information technology
  • tourism
  • climatic changes in the region (related to agriculture)

According to the results of the competition held in March this year among 72 young people and women, the Selection Committee within the framework of the Joint Program supported the following startup projects for co-financing:

  • "Bookie" - production of audiobooks
  • "Bilim" - language school
  • "No coders" - programmers combine
  • Manufacture of leather goods
  • Production of paving stones from PET bottles
  • Improvement of water technologies
  • Production of eco-briquettes from waste

UNDP provides assistance in improving efficiency and introducing innovations in agriculture in Karakalpakstan, promoting smart and digital communities with a favorable infrastructure for the empowerment of youth, women, as well as vulnerable groups of people, including people with disabilities, families headed by women, migrant workers, etc.
