MYKOLAIV, 14 March 2024 — The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine has delivered 152 charging stations, 50 uninterruptible power supply (UPS) units, and 80 batteries to National Police offices in the Mykolaiv Oblast. Within this batch, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) has also received seven stations and 40 UPS units. The procurement of this equipment, valued at over US$140,000, was made possible thanks to generous financial support from the Government of Denmark.

As reported by the State Inspection of Energy Supervision of Ukraine, over 1,000 electrical network facilities have been damaged in Mykolaiv Oblast since the onset of the war. This damage, among other things, has impeded the operations of critical services, particularly the National Police and the State Emergency Service. UNDP and the Government of Denmark are collaborating to deliver the technical equipment needed to strengthen the responsiveness to crises and uninterrupted continuity of work of the police and emergency responders in war-affected communities.

Ambassador of Denmark to Ukraine Ole Egberg Mikkelsen stressed that the Government of Denmark will persist in providing systematic support essential for the recovery of Mykolaiv and its communities. “I wish to thank the police and the SES for their crucially important work to save lives and bring back normal life whenever Russia has brought death and destruction to peaceful cities and settlements in Mykolaiv Oblast,” Mikkelsen said. “They do this often at the risk of their own lives, and we are proud to contribute to their efforts,” he added.

UNDP Resident Representative Jaco Cilliers emphasized the high regard UNDP places on collaboration with the police and emergency services at both national and local levels. “We have numerous projects in both Mykolaiv and Mykolaiv Oblast, and supporting the work of security service providers is taking a prominent role as the safety of communities in war conditions remains our unwavering priority,” Cilliers added.

The delivery of this batch of equipment is part of a broader support programme provided by the Government of Denmark and UNDP to the communities of Mykolaiv Oblast, to ensure sustainable and unhindered provision of security services and promote the coordinated efforts of relevant services on the ground.
