The project will ensure access to high-quality, affordable, and low-cost medicines through the procurement of medications for the treatment of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and other illnesses. It will continue the medicine procurement efforts initiated under the first UNDP/MoHMI project on NCDs in 2020–2021.

Importantly, the project includes:

1. Provision of medicines for rare and orphan diseases, which are extremely expensive worldwide, making patients with such conditions particularly vulnerable due to financial hardship;
2. Provision of medicines for patients with NCDs, including those from the most vulnerable population groups;
3. Contribution to women’s health by supplying medicines needed during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.

The project, which is fully funded by the Government of Turkmenistan, is expected to make a significant contribution to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
