Assistance in Strengthening the Institutional Capacity of the Office of the Ombudsman of Turkmenistan

Project goals

The UNDP project jointly implemented with the Office of the Ombudsman of Turkmenistan “Assistance in Strengthening the Institutional Capacity of the Office of the Ombudsman of Turkmenistan” is aimed at strengthening the capacity of the Office of the Ombudsman in accordance with the Paris Principles and with the recommendations provided by the Asia-Pacific Forum (APF).

The Project will continue the systematic interaction of the Office of the Ombudsman with the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) and the ATF in order to obtain accreditation in the GANHRI and prepare for subsequent interviews with the GANHRI Accreditation Subcommittee.

The project also includes joint activities aimed at strengthening the interaction between the Ombudsman's Office and civil society, discussing the national preventive mechanism (NPM) system for preventing torture and other forms of cruel treatment of prisoners, particularly women prisoners, with the involvement of an international expert for the members of the IAC.
