Handover IT equipment and office supplies to Government Partners of GCCA+ Phase 2 Project

During a drive-by handover on Monday 17 January 2022, the GCCA+ Suriname Adaptation - Phase 2 Project, provided IT equipment and office supplies to the Water Directorate of the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Department Nature Conservation Division of the Ministry of Land and Forest Management.

The donation of the IT equipment and office supplies to the governmental partners has a total value of SRD 531,469 and consisted of:

  • 8 Desktops including monitors, keyboards, and computer mouse
  • 2 Laptops including laptop bags
  • 3 Printers including extra cartridges
  • 1 Scanner
  • 1 Digital Camera
  • 1 File cabinet
  • Office stationery and supplies

For the Ministry of Natural Resources, the delivered items will enable the institutional strengthening in support of improvements in Water Governance and Integrated Water Resource Management in Suriname.

These items were received by Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Water Directorate of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Mrs. Reina Ormskirk, on behalf of the department.  Mrs. Reina Ormskirk expressed her appreciation to GCCA+ Project: “Integrated Water Management is a new department within the Ministry of Natural Resources. The purchase of office supplies and equipment is not going smoothly, but with the help of GCCA+, we have the much-needed office supplies and equipment. Therefore, I want to say a big thank you to GCCA+, the EU and the UNDP for their support.”.

As for the Ministry of Land and Forest Management, these items will support MUMA (Multiple Use Management Area) Management as well as the Educational and Awareness programmes on coastal ecosystems linked to climate action aimed at groups that employ economical activities in mangrove ecosystems and the general public. The items were received by the Coordinator of Nature Conservation Suriname, Ms. Claudine Sakimin, on behalf of the department.

“On behalf of our team, l am grateful for GCCA's donation. Now that we have received the office equipment, in form of desktops, laptops, printers and office supplies, we can perform the planned activities more efficiently”, added Ms. Claudine Sakimin.

To reduce risks in the context of the pandemic, the handover occurred with no physical contact and in observation of the Covid-19 measures set in place by the Government of Suriname.
