UNDP steps up efforts to end sexual and gender-based violence

Holds event to mark 16 days of activism

 UNDP Sierra Leone has reiterated its strong commitment to fight Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) with renewed spirit as expressed by the  Resident Representative, Fredrick Ampiah.

As part of the global 16 days of activism against SGBV, Ampiah highlighted the importance of empowering youth to prevent such crimes. At an event  held by staff of the organization, he revealed the harsh reality of young people being imprisoned due to these offenses. Ampiah urged education among youths about possible consequences.

Emphasizing the need for enhanced visibility and awareness about gender and sexual-based violence. He called  for  collective action in tackling this urgent issue.

According to UNDP’s Gender Analyst, Madam Kadie Bachaley Taylor, the event was a significant step by UNDP to amplify advocacy against SGBV, breaking the silence and calling for national commitment to this vital agenda.

She expressed the hope that UNDP staff act as role models and agents for change, aiming to inspire others to follow suit.
