Private Sector Engagement
The importance of collaboration with the private sector
UNDP considers partnerships with the private sector to be a fundamental lever for bridging the gap between policy formulation and the concrete implementation of climate and energy solutions promoted through the programmatic offer of the UNDP Rome Centre.
The private sector is indeed an indispensable partner in driving systemic transformation and sustainable economic growth. As outlined in the UNDP Strategic Plan 2026–2029, the Agency has a mandate to work closely with businesses to align innovation, capital and technical expertise with the needs of developing countries.
Through the strategic engagement of private actors, the Rome Centre aims to:
• Accelerate the energy transition
• Mobilize public and private finance
• Scale up and strengthen programmatic impact
• Co-design innovative solutions to development challenges, combining UNDP’s expertise with the know-how of the private sector
Request for Information (RFI): Building a Private Sector Database
In order to facilitate the systematic engagement of the private sector in multilateral cooperation, the UNDP Rome Centre is building a dedicated database of companies and organizations interested in collaborating with the UNDP ecosystem. The database supports the alignment between private sector capabilities, companies’ geographic presence, and UNDP’s concrete programmatic needs.
Through a structured Request for Information (RFI) process, companies are invited to provide key information that will enable the Centre to:
• Conduct targeted outreach activities
• Identify relevant partners
• Facilitate efficient matchmaking between project needs and solutions offered by the private sector
• Identify capacity-building opportunities
Submit a Request for Information
The written information submitted through the RFI allows companies to present their profile, products and services, technical capacities, qualifications and relevant experience.
The database will serve as a dynamic knowledge and engagement platform, collecting information on:
• Sector expertise
• Geographic presence
• Technical capacities
• Training and partnership interests
• Sustainability commitments and ESG criteria
The database will also serve as a strategic intelligence and matchmaking tool for the UNDP Partnerships and Strategy Team, supporting a systematic, evidence-based approach to:
• Partner identification
• Engagement prioritization
• Analysis of technical competencies
• Project co-design and pipeline development
Concrete Opportunities for the Private Sector
For private sector entities, submitting information through this RFI represents a structured channel to increase their visibility within the UNDP ecosystem and to be considered for relevant collaboration opportunities.
By registering in the database and engaging with the Centre, companies may access:
• Market intelligence and strategic insights. Opportunities to access market analyses, policy reports and sector insights that support informed strategic positioning and business development in emerging and developing markets.
• Matchmaking and participation in trade fairs or events. We share concrete business opportunities generated through our programmatic activities and facilitate B2B matchmaking, including coordinated participation in sector-specific trade fairs and specialized events.
• Speaking and thought leadership opportunities. Companies may showcase their expertise and innovative solutions in dedicated events, roundtables and strategic dialogues, contributing to the co-creation of new market, learning and partnership opportunities.
• Webinars on how to access the UN ecosystem. We design targeted sessions to strengthen the private sector’s understanding of engagement channels within the UN system, including procurement processes, due diligence requirements, alignment with the SDGs, project design standards and impact measurement frameworks. This strengthens companies’ ability to become effective, compliant partners aligned with the institutional mission.
• Institutional and policy engagement. Through our networks and channels, companies may access institutional networks and information on UN financing mechanisms, fostering dialogue, partnerships and participation in public procurement and development programmes.
