Partnerships for Climate and Energy Action

UNDP Rome Centre aims to build partnerships that turn ideas into impact for climate action and a fair energy transition. We are committed to strengthen UNDP’s engagement with the Italian and international ecosystem, catalysing synergies and unlocking opportunities in countries where UNDP operates, through the engagement with both the public and private sectors. By connecting expertise, resources, and ideas from different sectors, we aim to drive practical impact in countries and communities that are most affected by the climate and energy challenge. Our partnerships help turn knowledge into action, support innovation, and expand opportunities for sustainable development.

Who We Work With

We collaborate with a broad range of partners that contribute knowledge, resources, and diverse perspectives to climate and energy work. At national and international level, our partnerships include:

     • Academia and Universities
     • Think tanks and research centres
     • Private sector companies and industry networks
     • Philanthropic and corporate foundations
     • Youth and civil society organizations
     • Multilateral and international development actors

What We Offer

The Rome Centre brings a unique combination of global expertise, regional insight, and direct access to UNDP’s operational network. Partners work with us to:

     • Connect research and innovation with real world/on-field implementation
     • Strengthen policy development and institutional capacity
     • Access UNDP country networks, technical experts, and field experience
     • Co-develop knowledge, learning, and training initiatives
     • Pilot and scale new solutions that support the energy transition and climate resilience

What We are looking for

We build partnerships that bring a clear added value to climate action and the energy transition. We look for public and private organisations that see collaboration as shared work and that are ready to contribute ideas, expertise, and learning toward common goals. The strongest partners are those who can help unlock new knowledge, innovation, or pathways to scale, whether through research, implementation capacity, networks, or influence for the programmatic initiatives implemented by UNDP Rome Center. Integrity and alignment with UN principles are essential, since partnerships must reflect fairness, transparency, and responsible engagement. Above all, we look for collaborations that can deliver results that last, expand beyond one project, and can grow to benefit more countries and communities over time.

Areas of Collaboration

Our collaborations focus on work that strengthens both the global climate agenda and direct country level results. A core part of this is generating knowledge that supports better decisions, from research and evidence to practical learning that can be applied by governments and institutions. We work with partners to build the skills and capabilities needed to drive change, whether through training, leadership development, or peer to peer learning across regions. Youth engagement is a priority, since long term climate solutions depend on placing young people at the centre of policy, innovation, and implementation. We also collaborate on testing and scaling new ideas, technologies, and models that can speed up the energy transition in a fair and inclusive way. Finally, we facilitate dialogue and cooperation across regions, helping partners connect, share experience, and shape policies that support resilient and sustainable development.

Looking Ahead

Rome Centre is committed to growing a vibrant community of partners that can shape the future of climate and energy action. We will continue working with institutions that bring bold ideas, practical expertise, and a shared sense of responsibility for people and the planet. By joining forces, we aim to inspire new solutions, influence policy, and expand opportunities for a fair and sustainable energy transition that benefits everyone.
