Advancing Access to Justice and Legal Aid in Situations of Forced Displacement

December 1, 2022

This report draws from the workshop for Advancing Access to Justice and Legal Aid in Forced Displacement Situations, co-organized by UNDP’s Rule of Law, Security and Human Rights Team and UNHCR’s Division of Resilience and Solutions and Division of International Protection. The workshop focused on access to justice as a prime example of the Humanitarian-Development-Peace (HDP) nexus at work and as a central concern of UNDP and UNHCR based on their respective mandates.

The report contains a summary of key insights and lessons from the collaboration in this area of work, discussing experiences of UNDP and UNHCR staff from Burkina Faso, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Lebanon, Myanmar, Pakistan, Somalia and Syria, from UNDP Regional Hubs and UNHCR Regional Bureaux and from UNDP and UNHCR Headquarters. UNDP and UNHCR colleagues took the time to reflect and develop a set of joint recommendations with a view to enhancing scope and quality of current interventions to advance access to justice for forcibly displaced people and host communities.
