UNDP
Our partners
UNDP and civil society
UNDP partners with civil society organizations as essential allies in achieving sustainable development outcomes. We work directly with diverse civil society actors—including grassroots social movements, volunteer organizations, indigenous peoples' organizations, community-based organizations, and non-governmental organizations—to co-design and implement development programmes that are grounded in community needs and local expertise.
We facilitate platforms where civil society voices inform national and regional policy frameworks, ensuring that grassroots perspectives shape the decisions that affect communities most. We also support civil society's advocacy role by strengthening their capacity to engage in policy dialogue, hold governments accountable, and champion the rights and interests of marginalized groups.
Through these partnerships, UNDP helps create space for meaningful citizen participation in governance processes while leveraging civil society's unique ability to reach vulnerable populations and build trust within communities. This collaborative approach ensures that our development work is not only effective but also locally owned and democratically grounded.
