Bridging Borders, Building a Shared Future: UNDP and China Advance South-South and Triangular Cooperation

September 12, 2026

At a critical juncture for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the world confronts increasingly complex climate shocks, widening inequalities, and compounding development deficits. In this challenging landscape, South-South and Triangular Cooperation have emerged as indispensable pillars—harnessing the ingenuity across the Global South to accelerate collective global action.

Between 2011 and 2026, leveraging the valuable support of the Government of China, UNDP has implemented a targeted portfolio of development projects across 26 countries in Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe, and Latin America. Spanning disaster risk reduction and climate resilience, inclusive livelihoods, public health, and green and digital transitions, these efforts have benefited over 18 million people.

From restoring livelihoods in post-flood Pakistan to piloting deployments of clean energy solutions across Africa; from scaling actionable early warning systems across six countries to advancing public service digitalization in the Caribbean—behind each cross-border effort are lives uplifted and futures reimagined.

As a global development organization with presence in over 170 countries and territories, UNDP serves as a bridge, connecting China’s experience, technology, and resources with demand from partner countries. In China, guided by our new Country Programme Document (2026–2030), we remain committed to working alongside partners worldwide to translate innovative, green, and inclusive solutions into tangible impact, advancing a more sustainable future for people and planet.
