UNDP and the China International Development Cooperation Agency Team Up to Strengthen Climate Action through South-South Cooperation

December 11, 2023

UNDP and the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) have signed a Statement of Intent (SOI) expressing their willingness to cooperate in areas of mutual interest, especially on climate information and early warning systems. The partnership aims to enhance the capacity of interested countries to realize the Paris Climate Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the mobilization of financial and human resources, and the facilitation of South-South cooperation.

In line with UNDP's Strategic Plan for 2022-2025, the partnership specifically seeks to strengthen the climate resilience and adaptation capacity of countries, enhance access to and use of climate information and early warning systems, promote low-carbon development pathways, and foster inclusive and effective partnerships for sustainable development. Joint efforts will leverage existing platforms such as the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund and will cover countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America on a demand basis.
