On UNDP’s 60th Anniversary, Acting Administrator Haoliang Xu to Visit China to Strengthen Partnerships for Sustainable Development

Beijing, 7 November – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Acting Administrator, Mr. Haoliang Xu, will visit China from 13 to 17 November 2025.
The visit reaffirms and seeks to further strengthen the longstanding strategic partnership between China and UNDP to accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and global climate action both domestically and globally. In conjunction with the UN 80th Anniversary and UNDP 60th Anniversary, the objective is to engage with key stakeholders and solidify support for action at speed and scale in implementing the vision of the UN Pact for Future as well as UNDP’s new global Strategic Plan 2026-2029.
In Beijing, Mr. Xu is planning on holding high-level meetings with senior officials from the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), Ministry of Finance (MOF), China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) and other line ministries to discuss enhanced cooperation in climate finance, development investment, and international development cooperation.
Mr. Xu will also attend a reception celebrating UNDP’s 60th anniversary bringing together long-standing partners from governments, academia, UN agencies, international community, the private sector and media.
The visit will conclude in Shanghai, where Mr. Xu plans to meet with the Shanghai Municipal Government to concretise collaboration through the Shanghai Global Centre for Sustainable Development (SGCSD)—a joint initiative between UNDP and China announced in September 2025 during the UN General Assembly. The Centre is envisaged to serve as a unique platform within UNDP’s global network and technical expertise, to provide new forms of collaboration and partnerships, accelerating green economic transitions, including through digital economy and sustainable finance to help developing countries achieve sustainable development transformations.Mr. Xu is also expected to engage with leading think tanks, universities, and business leaders to explore new areas of cooperation for sustainable development.
